Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Cardinals spent pick No. 78 on Tyler Shough, a name the board had a full 74 spots lower.
On value alone, Schwesinger makes the weekend a net positive. The wide receiver hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
They went 4 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Hit on Armand Membou and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 16th overall pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front, a steep price for the projection. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in the 47th pick with a little surplus value in T.J. Sanders. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Tyler Shough, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Vernon Broughton in slot 113, miles early. It fills a real need, too.
Carson Schwesinger in No. 151 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
