The Commanders did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Cobee Bryant fell into pick 238. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That tight end hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 29th pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game at fair value.
Nice patience on Tre Harris, who had no business lasting to No. 61. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Savion Williams in pick No. 128 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Mello Dotson in slot 148. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Lander Barton at pick 178 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Steal is underselling it; Logan Brown at Round 6, Pick 27 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Hayden Conner. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They will replay Cobee Bryant at the Round 7 slot for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kyle Monangai in pick No. 250 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
