The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Jayden Daniels, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
The Okie-Anoma pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
That is a cornerback worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get their quarterback of the future. A clean fit for the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Troy Franklin at No. 34, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They took Keon Coleman at par in the 38th pick, which is nothing to complain about. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Patrick Paul. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Zak Zinter at the 103rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Josh Newton at pick 137 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Nice patience on Kamal Hadden, who had no business lasting to pick No. 180. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
Steele Chambers in slot 193 is fair value, right on his grade. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They paid sticker price for JD Bertrand in Round 7, Pick 1, and that is fine. Nice player, but the depth chart did not need him here.
Eyabi Okie-Anoma at No. 231 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
