The Mason Fairchild selection is the head-turner. The Cowboys reached 54 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered. The board pushed back all weekend, and the D is the result.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Add it up and it is a weekend the front office will hope everyone forgets, quarterback very much included.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a go-to option on the outside at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In pick No. 24 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at a price that makes it sweeter.
By-the-book stuff, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 2, Pick 24 squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Cooper Beebe at pick 87 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Dominick Puni enough to skip the value, taking him in the 90th pick. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They paid sticker price for MarShawn Lloyd in slot 124, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
Michael Barrett in slot 174 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They reached a country mile for Marcus Harris at pick No. 212, and the board is aghast. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Donovan Jennings well ahead of where he belonged. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Dwight McGlothern at No. 227 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for Mason Fairchild, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
