Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Jaylin Simpson got past him. The Giants do not have to explain a thing at Round 6, Pick 8.
Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The Orhorhoro pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. The roster is better shaped than it was, with interior defensive lineman chief among the fixes.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a weapon on the perimeter at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Ruke Orhorhoro at the 47th overall pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Cooper Beebe in No. 70 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
You do not let a safety like Renardo Green reach Round 4, Pick 7 and blink. They did not. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Steal is underselling it; Will Shipley at slot 141 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Jaylin Simpson at pick No. 183 for years; that is how good the value is. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
