The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Mason Taylor fell into pick No. 171.
The Dart pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but wide receiver.
Pick-by-Pick
Circle this one: Omarion Hampton at Round 2, Pick 12 is a fall that decides a draft. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in the 70th overall pick, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A real head-scratcher, Jordan Burch in the Round 3 slot is miles ahead of his ranking. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Jaxson Dart at the 92nd pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
TreVeyon Henderson at No. 106 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kevin Winston Jr. at pick No. 148 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Smael Mondon Jr. in slot 168 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Chris Paul Jr. in pick 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A tight end of that caliber at pick No. 171 is the definition of value, full stop. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
