Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Devonshire at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. They gave back a little on the phones for the right to move.
The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 7 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
A tidy bit of business in pick 34, where Brian Thomas Jr. graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Amarius Mims is a better player than pick No. 38 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Malachi Corley slid further than he should have, and the 68th pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Bucky Irving at the 104th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Matt Goncalves in slot 136 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Dylan Laube was still sitting there in No. 182, and they pounced on premier running back value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board fumbled Tykee Smith all the way to the Round 6 slot, and they scooped it up. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for M.J. Devonshire here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
