Nobody else had Joshua Cephus anywhere near the 219th overall pick. The Packers did, by 37 spots, and that gap is the whole story. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Kinchens falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 25 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
They did well to land Jordan Morgan in pick 41, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
T.J. Tampa at the 58th pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cooper Beebe in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A safety of that caliber at pick No. 91 is the definition of value, full stop. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Cedric Gray in No. 125 is fair value, right on his grade. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Isaiah Davis in Round 5, Pick 32. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Value with a capital V on Elijah Jones in No. 201, a genuine coup. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Joshua Cephus this early at the 219th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They paid sticker price for Kenny Logan Jr. in slot 245, and that is fine. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
A straight-up fair deal on Matthew Jones at pick No. 255, value and slot in agreement. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
