There is reaching, and then there is Mohamed Kamara at the 108th overall pick. The Giants jumped the board by 22 and dared it to prove them wrong. No fireworks, but a solid B.
The trade work was a quiet net positive. On the needs board they went 9 of 9, with interior defensive lineman the one that mattered most.
Almost all the early capital went to that side of the ball.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 8th overall pick they get a true top target. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kingsley Suamataia at the 39th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Javon Bullard in Round 2, Pick 11 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at pick 47, value and slot in agreement. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They liked Kris Abrams-Draine enough to skip the value, taking him in the Round 3 slot. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached a country mile for Mohamed Kamara at No. 108, and the board is aghast. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Cedric Gray at par in the Round 4 slot, which is nothing to complain about. A minor itch, scratched.
A reach on Dylan Laube in the 140th pick; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jared Wiley a notch or two before his time. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Joe Milton III at pick 200 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
