Dallas Cowboys

Nothing loud, just a tidy B- for the Cowboys.

The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Tyrice Knight, 54 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B-.

Getting Coleman where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The Smith pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at cornerback, quarterback and other spots. The cornerback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.

Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.24 · Pick 24 · Troy Fautanu · OT · rank 26
In the 24th pick they get a plug-and-play piece up front. Exactly the need they had to hit.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Keon Coleman · WR · rank 36
Steal is underselling it; Keon Coleman at pick 60 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.24 · Pick 87 · Maason Smith · DT-EDGE · rank 107
A surprising call. With cornerback, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 3 slot on Maason Smith, a DT-EDGE they were not short of.
R4.27 · Pick 127 · Mohamed Kamara · DL-EDGE · rank 130
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in slot 127, which is nothing to complain about. A minor need, but a need all the same.
R5.23 · Pick 159 · Jaylan Ford · LB · rank 196
Jaylan Ford at pick No. 159 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R5.26 · Pick 162 · Tyrice Knight · LB · rank 216
This one needs a full-page explanation: Tyrice Knight in the 162nd overall pick, miles early. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.37 · Pick 173 · Justin Rogers · DL · rank 201
Justin Rogers in Round 5, Pick 37 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R6.41 · Pick 216 · Logan Lee · DL · rank 241
A wild overpay on Logan Lee in pick 216, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. A need, and now a little less of one.
R7.13 · Pick 233 · Frank Gore Jr. · RB · rank 224
Nice patience on Frank Gore Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 233. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.24 · Pick 244 · Charles Turner III · C · rank 286
They left a pile of value on the table to take Charles Turner III this early at slot 244. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
