The Cowboys put a flag in the ground for Frank Crum, 63 picks before anyone else would have, and the value took the hit.
They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Coleman pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
Good work on the whole, with cornerback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
Byron Murphy II at slot 24 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Keon Coleman at pick No. 56 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the 93rd overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Javon Foster at pick 134. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Ty'Ron Hopper in No. 173 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Tyrice Knight in the 213th pick, and that is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Frank Gore Jr. at the Round 7 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They went early on Edefuan Ulofoshio in pick No. 242, and the value did not follow. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Charles Turner III at slot 253 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A big swing on Taulia Tagovailoa at pick 254, well ahead of any board in the building. The roster fit checks out.
A real head-scratcher, Frank Crum in No. 257 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
