The Cowboys clearly saw something nobody else did in Frank Gore Jr., taking him 48 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 26 they get a pocket-collapsing interior rusher. A clean fit for the roster.
A market-rate cornerback, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Denzel Burke. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Brenden Rice at Round 3, Pick 26 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Payton Wilson. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Michael Barrett in the Round 5 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Frank Gore Jr. well ahead of where he belonged. A need, and now a little less of one.
A wild overpay on J.C. Davis in pick 247, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
