It is the swing that defines the weekend: John Emery Jr. in pick No. 243, a good 99 spots before the room expected him. It nets out to a B, which feels about right.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Phillips. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Bullard pick is fine in a vacuum, less so with quarterback, tight end and other spots still on the board.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Troy Franklin slid further than he should have, and No. 41 is lovely value for the wide receiver. A need, and now a little less of one.
Nice patience on Calen Bullock, who had no business lasting to Round 2, Pick 25. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Christian Mahogany at pick No. 88 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Of all the spots to shop, they chose safety. Javon Bullard in the 91st pick leaves quarterback, tight end and other spots for later.
A straight-up fair deal on Justin Eboigbe at slot 126, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A cornerback of that caliber at the 168th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A top-tier offensive lineman at a bargain, LaDarius Henderson in pick No. 203, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Steal is underselling it; Andru Phillips at No. 216 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
John Emery Jr. in Round 7, Pick 23 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Evan Williams in the Round 7 slot, miles early. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
