It is the swing that defines the weekend: Eric O'Neill in the Round 7 slot, a good 47 spots before the room expected him. More right than wrong, and a B+ to match.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. The Allar pick is the one they will point to when this weekend is judged.
The running back spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. On the needs board they went 8 of 9, with cornerback the one that mattered most.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but running back.
Pick-by-Pick
They went early on Max Iheanachor in the 33rd pick, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
The board had Omar Cooper Jr. higher than slot 44, and the wide receiver fell to them anyway. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Dillon Thieneman all the way to the 46th overall pick, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christen Miller in No. 52 is fair value, right on his grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Connor Lew at par in pick 84, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; Tacario Davis went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Joe Royer in the 126th overall pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid a round early for Isaiah World in pick No. 137, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Charles Demmings at slot 153 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Drew Allar at pick 178 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Cole Payton in No. 197 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Eric O'Neill. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
