The board owed the Eagles one, and it paid up: Jake Slaughter, the No. 58 name on the board, sitting there at the 114th overall pick like a gift left on the doorstep.
The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In the end it comes back to Kenyon Sadiq, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a seam-stretching tight end, and a steal at that. A clean fit for the roster.
Circle this one: Olaivavega Ioane at pick 38 is a fall that decides a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Dillon Thieneman in Round 2, Pick 22 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They robbed the room for Christen Miller here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Nice patience on Ted Hurst, who had no business lasting to pick No. 98. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Jake Slaughter in the 114th overall pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A quiet steal in the Round 4 slot: Tacario Davis for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Marlin Klein at No. 178 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Cole Payton in Round 6, Pick 20, and that is fine. It fills a real need, too.
