Green Bay Packers

The Packers robbed the room for Johnson. Final grade: B-.

Call it larceny. Cornelius Johnson sat on the board until the 211th overall pick, and the Packers did not need to be asked twice. The bottom line is a respectable B-.

That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. Flax has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 2 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.

All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.30 · Pick 30 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 35
In slot 30 they get a blindside protector. A real need, handled.
R2.11 · Pick 43 · Adonai Mitchell · WR · rank 33
Adonai Mitchell slid further than he should have, and the 43rd overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Christian Haynes · OG · rank 62
Christian Haynes in Round 2, Pick 26 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Brenden Rice · WR · rank 97
Brenden Rice at pick 88 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 99
Christian Mahogany in No. 91 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. The roster fit checks out.
R3.34 · Pick 97 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 101
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jalen McMillan. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.25 · Pick 125 · Sataoa Laumea · OT · rank 117
The board had Sataoa Laumea higher than pick No. 125, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.24 · Pick 160 · Trevor Keegan · OG · rank 162
No edge and no loss on Trevor Keegan in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R5.32 · Pick 168 · Mason McCormick · OT · rank 159
Mason McCormick at the 168th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It fills a real need, too.
R6.36 · Pick 211 · Cornelius Johnson · WR · rank 187
They will replay Cornelius Johnson at No. 211 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Keaton Bills · OG · rank 233
Keaton Bills in the 219th pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · LaDarius Henderson · OT · rank 246
By-the-book stuff, LaDarius Henderson at slot 245 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Jeremy Flax · OT · rank 274
Jeremy Flax in pick No. 255 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
