New England Patriots

Quarterback settled, Maye in the fold, and a B for the Patriots.

Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.

That is an interior defensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped safety, which is a strange place to end up. The cost of the Morgan reach is exactly the players who went right after him.

Edge rusher is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.

Good work on the whole, with safety the one box left unchecked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.3 · Pick 3 · Drake Maye · QB · rank 5
In No. 3 they get a passer to set the clock by at fair value. A real need, handled.
R2.3 · Pick 35 · Jordan Morgan · OT · rank 49
A conviction pick on Jordan Morgan at the 35th pick that the board grades a round light. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R2.31 · Pick 63 · Ja'Lynn Polk · WR · rank 69
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick 63 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R3.2 · Pick 66 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 60
A tidy little value on Cooper DeJean in Round 3, Pick 2, a step better than break-even. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R3.3 · Pick 67 · Sedrick Van Pran · C · rank 74
By-the-book stuff, Sedrick Van Pran at the 67th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A need, and now a little less of one.
R3.31 · Pick 94 · Kiran Amegadjie · OT · rank 101
A straight-up fair deal on Kiran Amegadjie at slot 94, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
R4.2 · Pick 102 · Will Shipley · RB · rank 100
No drama and no debate, Will Shipley went about where he belonged in the Round 4 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R5.3 · Pick 139 · Tyleik Williams · DT · rank 92
They barely believed it either: Tyleik Williams still on the board at pick No. 139. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R6.5 · Pick 180 · Jamari Thrash · WR · rank 170
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Jamari Thrash at Round 6, Pick 5 is the proof. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Brevyn Spann-Ford · TE · rank 205
Brevyn Spann-Ford in pick No. 209 lands just on the right side of the ledger. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R6.38 · Pick 213 · Steve Linton · LB-EDGE · rank 210
Fair-plus on Steve Linton, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
