Whoever sat across the table from the Patriots should ask for a receipt. They cleaned the room out, prying loose far more value than they gave up, and it was the quiet MVP of their weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
The cost of the Rattler reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Leaving edge rusher unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. Adding Khalen Saunders by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
Spann-Ford falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 6th overall pick they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid sticker price for Adonai Mitchell in No. 34, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Patrick Paul in the 45th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached into another round for Spencer Rattler, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A straight-up fair deal on Khyree Jackson at the Round 4 slot, value and slot in agreement. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They jumped the gun on Theo Johnson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ethan Driskell at slot 182 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Blake Watson in pick No. 224 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Brevyn Spann-Ford higher than the Round 7 slot, and the tight end fell to them anyway. It fills a real need, too.
