The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Hardy. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Jayden Daniels at par in the 8th pick, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
In pick No. 28 they get a true top target. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Kiran Amegadjie in the 68th overall pick. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Xavier Legette at No. 81 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Dominick Puni at Round 4, Pick 4 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
They did well to land MarShawn Lloyd in pick 110, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fair-plus on Ben Sinnott, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They barely believed it either: Nathaniel Watson still on the board at the Round 7 slot. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Daequan Hardy in the 233rd pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A minor need, but a need all the same.
