New England Patriots

The Patriots bled value on every deal, hence the D.

The Will Sheppard selection is the head-turner. The Patriots reached 145 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.

The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

However the rest shakes out, Campbell at that price is a win they earned.

In the end, a class the front office will want to grow past quickly.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.2 · Pick 2 · Travis Hunter · CB · rank 1
In pick No. 2 they get a press-man option on the boundary. More want than need.
R2.10 · Pick 42 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 18
Somehow Malaki Starks was still sitting there in the Round 2 slot, and they pounced on premier safety value. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Jihaad Campbell · LB · rank 40
Jihaad Campbell at pick 69 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R3.19 · Pick 83 · Jake Majors · C · rank 93
Jake Majors at No. 83 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R4.9 · Pick 110 · Miles Frazier · OG · rank 201
A big swing on Miles Frazier at slot 110, well ahead of any board in the building. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R4.12 · Pick 113 · Garrett Dellinger · OG · rank 249
Garrett Dellinger at the 113th overall pick is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A need, and now a little less of one.
R5.2 · Pick 140 · Que Robinson · LB-EDGE · rank 214
They reached a country mile for Que Robinson at pick No. 140, and the board is aghast. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R5.7 · Pick 145 · Will Sheppard · WR · rank 290
Will Sheppard in slot 145 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R7.5 · Pick 219 · Bru McCoy · WR · rank 292
Value said wait; Bru McCoy in Round 7, Pick 5 says they were not listening. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R7.8 · Pick 222 · Trey Wedig · OT · rank 284
A wild overpay on Trey Wedig in the 222nd pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R7.23 · Pick 237 · Shilo Sanders · S · rank 234
Shilo Sanders in the 237th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
