The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Jayden Higgins, taking him 101 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced.
Getting Henderson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The trades bled value they could not afford to lose. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
Hit on Travis Hunter and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 4th overall pick they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
Jayden Higgins at slot 36 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They let Dylan Fairchild come to them and pounced at No. 68. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Jake Majors at pick 83 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jihaad Campbell in the 105th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for TreVeyon Henderson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Will Sheppard in the 209th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They took Jake Slaughter at par in Round 7, Pick 6, which is nothing to complain about. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A real head-scratcher, Jimmy Horn Jr. in No. 224 is miles ahead of his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They will replay Hunter Wohler at pick 241 for years; that is how good the value is. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
