The Cowboys looked at the value chart, folded it up, and took Jordan Davis at No. 233 regardless, 129 picks early.
That is a wide receiver worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. That quarterback hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.
A modest surplus at the table, banked quietly.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get protection for the quarterback at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Junior Colson in pick 63, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at pick No. 87 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
You do not let a wide receiver like Jacob Cowing reach No. 174 and blink. They did not. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A straight-up fair deal on Evan Williams at slot 211, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, Johnny Dixon in the 215th overall pick, plain and simple. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value said wait; Jowon Briggs in slot 216 says they were not listening. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Jordan Davis at No. 233 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
No drama and no debate, Jalen Coker went about where he belonged in pick No. 244. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
