Start where it matters. The Patriots took Drake Maye to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Reaching for McMahon left real value on the table behind him. That Wright pick is the receipt they will wave around later.
In short, they left a little better than they arrived, which is the whole idea.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a long-term answer under center at fair value. A real need, handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. in the 34th pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A conviction pick on Marist Liufau at slot 68 that the board grades a round light. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nothing to complain about; Blake Fisher went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Javon Foster slid further than he should have, and No. 136 is lovely value for the offensive lineman. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Taking Jaylen Wright in the 182nd overall pick is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Dylan McMahon at Round 7, Pick 9 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
