Somebody in the 220th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Patriots sat still while Jack Kiser, the No. 179 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Just about everything broke right, and the A- follows.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. The hoard sets up next April more than it helps this September.
Bottom line, with Nic Scourton leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a bendy edge with upside. The biggest hole, addressed.
A straight-up fair deal on Tyler Booker at the Round 2 slot, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
By-the-book stuff, Jonah Savaiinaea at the 45th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A quiet steal in pick No. 69: Azareye'h Thomas for less than the market said. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Carson Schwesinger slid further than he should have, and pick 77 is lovely value for the linebacker. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Savion Williams in slot 106. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on Carson Vinson in Round 7, Pick 1; it is a wash and a sensible one. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jack Kiser in No. 220 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
John Williams in the Round 7 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
