When a board-topper like Cam Ward slides to the Round 5 slot, you do not overthink it, and the Cowboys did not. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.

They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving cornerback for another day if the season turns on it. The Justin Jefferson deal gives the class an established piece to lean on.

In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.

Pick-by-Pick

R2.12 · Pick 44 · Ashton Jeanty · RB · rank 2
A top-tier running back at a bargain, Ashton Jeanty in No. 44, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Walter Nolen · DT · rank 12
Steal is underselling it; Walter Nolen at pick No. 78 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
R5.11 · Pick 148 · Jalon Walker · LB · rank 25
Circle this one: Jalon Walker at the 148th overall pick is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.31 · Pick 168 · Tre Harris · WR · rank 23
Somehow Tre Harris was still sitting there in the 168th pick, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
R5.33 · Pick 170 · Cam Ward · QB · rank 8
Cam Ward at the Round 5 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. The roster fit checks out.
R5.34 · Pick 171 · Wyatt Milum · OT · rank 13
They robbed the room for Wyatt Milum here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R6.14 · Pick 189 · Alfred Collins · DT · rank 62
Alfred Collins in Round 6, Pick 14 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R6.34 · Pick 209 · Kyle Kennard · DE-EDGE · rank 77
They barely believed it either: Kyle Kennard still on the board at slot 209. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R7.32 · Pick 248 · Tahj Brooks · RB · rank 115
Taking Tahj Brooks in Round 7, Pick 32 is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
