The rest of the league will want that one back. Dominic Lovett tumbling to the Packers in slot 250 is a gift they did not have to think twice about.
The phones were where this weekend was really won. They will need Berger to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it. The imported veterans give this class a floor the draft picks could not on their own.
They left with edge rusher solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
It is a haul that will look even better come September.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 28 they get a press-man option on the boundary, reach and all. The biggest hole, addressed.
Graham Barton in the 39th overall pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It fills a real need, too.
A straight-up fair deal on Mekhi Wingo at the 61st pick, value and slot in agreement. A need, and now a little less of one.
A market-rate edge rusher, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Princely Umanmielen. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nazir Stackhouse at pick No. 82 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No drama and no debate, Michael Pratt went about where he belonged in slot 84. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Blake Fisher in the Round 3 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Christian Haynes in No. 107 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They paid sticker price for Jaheim Bell in the Round 4 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A premium they did not need to pay, Keith Randolph Jr. a notch or two before his time. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Somehow J. Michael Sturdivant was still sitting there in No. 166, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Jestin Jacobs at pick 185 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They robbed the room for Tre Harris here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Fair-plus on Jaxson Dart, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Michael Trigg at Round 6, Pick 44 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They reached into another round for Jalen Berger, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A wide receiver of that caliber at the 250th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
