You can fall in love with a player. You are not supposed to marry him in the wrong round. The Packers did exactly that with J.C. Davis in No. 219. It holds up to a second look, which is why it earns the A-.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. The Lovett pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.
A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Xavier Worthy and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 30 they get a matchup problem out wide at fair value. A real need, handled.
A market-rate linebacker, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeremiah Trotter Jr.. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Kalen King at slot 43, value and slot in agreement. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Nothing to complain about; Jermaine Burton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Amarius Mims at the 73rd overall pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The roster fit checks out.
They took Mohamed Kamara at par in No. 91, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They paid sticker price for Tyler Davis in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. A need, and now a little less of one.
Javion Cohen in pick No. 109 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on AJ Barner in slot 135; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ray Davis at the 156th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
No drama and no debate, Zion Tupuola-Fetui went about where he belonged in No. 165. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Kamal Hadden at pick 187 is money in the bank, a cornerback taken below his worth. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Sincere Haynesworth at the 206th pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A big swing on Brian Ugwu at Round 6, Pick 42, well ahead of any board in the building. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for J.C. Davis. It fills a real need, too.
They barely believed it either: Dominic Lovett still on the board at the 230th overall pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
