Start where it matters. The Bears took Bo Nix to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The cost of the Mims reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Randolph Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
In the end it comes back to Bo Nix, and a haul good enough to build on right away.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
In pick 18 they get a problem off the edge. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Leonard Taylor III well ahead of where he belonged. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Fair-plus on Nate Wiggins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A real head-scratcher, Amarius Mims in slot 54 is miles ahead of his ranking. The roster fit checks out.
No drama and no debate, Sedrick Van Pran went about where he belonged in Round 3, Pick 4. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A tidy little value on Kamren Kinchens in the 71st pick, a step better than break-even. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A premium they did not need to pay, Shilo Sanders a notch or two before his time. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
Matt Goncalves at pick 105 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Taking Jalen McMillan in slot 132 is close to grand larceny; a wide receiver that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jamon Dumas-Johnson in the 141st pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Nice patience on Miyan Williams, who had no business lasting to the Round 6 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
You do not let an edge rusher like Keith Randolph Jr. reach Round 7, Pick 5 and blink. They did not. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
