The Packers ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
The cost of the Kent reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The Wilson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. Leaving quarterback unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
The Mondon Jr. pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and interior defensive lineman.
Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 31 they get a No. 1 receiver. A real need, handled.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Calen Bullock. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Cooper DeJean in the 60th overall pick lands just on the right side of the ledger. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Sedrick Van Pran in No. 72. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Amarius Mims at pick 73, value and slot in agreement. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Christian Haynes at the Round 3 slot is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Danny Stutsman at the 97th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
They zigged when the board said zag, taking Smael Mondon Jr. at linebacker with quarterback and interior defensive lineman open.
Tate Ratledge in slot 109 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A reach on AJ Barner in the 119th overall pick; the board had better options right there. A need, and now a little less of one.
The board fumbled Roman Wilson all the way to pick No. 135, and they scooped it up. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Donovan Edwards at Round 5, Pick 19 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the running back. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Malik Mustapha in No. 163. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
Somehow BJ Mayes was still sitting there in the 186th pick, and they pounced on premier cornerback value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A quiet steal in the Round 6 slot: Julian Pearl for less than the market said. It fits a board better than it fits this team.
They paid sticker price for Keith Randolph Jr. in pick 196, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Landon Jackson at pick 217 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jason Henderson in the 219th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A want dressed up as a pick, at a spot they had covered.
A conviction pick on Trey Knox at pick No. 230 that the board grades a round light. The roster fit checks out.
They jumped the gun on Zion Nelson, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Donte Kent at No. 245 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jalen Berger at the 252nd pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
