Somebody in the 225th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Commanders sat still while Dorian Singer, the No. 176 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get a quarterback's worst nightmare at fair value. A real need, handled.
By-the-book stuff, Troy Fautanu at slot 36 squarely in line with his ranking. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Terrion Arnold in the 37th overall pick, a step better than break-even. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They let Jonathon Brooks come to them and pounced at Round 3, Pick 4. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid sticker price for Cam Hart in the Round 3 slot, and that is fine. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
No drama and no debate, Matt Goncalves went about where he belonged in No. 104. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Cade Stover in the 141st pick is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They barely believed it either: Zy Alexander still on the board at pick 182. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Circle this one: Dorian Singer at Round 7, Pick 5 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
