The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. More right than wrong, and a B to match.
It is not that Eichenberg is a bad player; it is that the Commanders had louder needs to answer first. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 4 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value. A real need, handled.
In No. 21 they get a sticky cover corner. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Brian Thomas Jr. at slot 36 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at the 66th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A straight-up fair deal on Rod Moore at Round 3, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Dominick Puni at the 100th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A want over a need in the Round 4 slot: Tommy Eichenberg adds a linebacker while edge rusher, running back and other spots keeps waiting.
