When a board-topper like Jordan Hancock slides to pick 240, you do not overthink it, and the Patriots did not. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
Reaching for Peebles left real value on the table behind him. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Josh Simmons. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Harold Fannin Jr. in No. 47, and that is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Good price on Tate Ratledge in the Round 3 slot, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Jared Ivey at the 78th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They talked themselves into Aeneas Peebles at Round 3, Pick 37, and the board did not agree. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Cam Skattebo at pick 133 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Nothing to complain about; Nick Nash went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Cody Lindenberg at slot 222, well ahead of any board in the building. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
The board fumbled Jordan Hancock all the way to No. 240, and they scooped it up. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
