The Patriots lost the trade war and it was not close, handing partners the better end again and again.
The edge rusher hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The Ali reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. Stockpiling next year's capital is patient, if unglamorous, asset work.
Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 6 of 8 of the wish list covered.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 11 they get a weapon on the perimeter. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Tyler Guyton in slot 34 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A market-rate safety, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Calen Bullock. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Brenden Rice at par in Round 3, Pick 4, which is nothing to complain about. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Michael Pratt at pick 103 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It fills a real need, too.
No edge and no loss on Ben Sinnott in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Marcus Rosemy-Jacksaint in the 143rd pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They jumped the gun on Rasheen Ali, taking him earlier than his grade liked. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
