The Giants ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided.
On value alone, Ford makes the weekend a net positive. The Suamataia reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through safety.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Xavier Legette and all.
Pick-by-Pick
They took Xavier Legette at par in the 17th pick, which is nothing to complain about. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
J.J. McCarthy in the 36th overall pick is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A need, and now a little less of one.
Troy Fautanu at pick No. 37 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A reach for Kingsley Suamataia in slot 47; a little patience would have been rewarded. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jack Sawyer at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Johnny Wilson at pick 70 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Braden Fiske in No. 105. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A quiet steal in Round 5, Pick 6: Khyree Jackson for less than the market said. It fills a real need, too.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Jaylan Ford at the 183rd overall pick. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Knox at pick 228 squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
