There is reaching, and then there is Nadame Tucker at the 118th pick. The Lions jumped the board by 56 and dared it to prove them wrong.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
Getting Pregnon where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 17 they get a three-down second-level presence. A real need, handled.
Emmanuel Pregnon at pick No. 55 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Nadame Tucker in the 118th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
By-the-book stuff, Jude Bowry at pick 128 squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They talked themselves into Ephesians Prysock at the 157th pick, and the board did not agree. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board had Ar'maj Reed-Adams higher than the Round 5 slot, and the offensive lineman fell to them anyway. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A big swing on Patrick Payton at the 205th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They jumped the gun on Robert Spears-Jennings, taking him earlier than his grade liked. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
