The tape said wait; the Commanders did not. Jawhar Jordan went at the Round 7 slot, a good 77 picks before the board was ready.
Caleb Williams gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Cooper. They left with wide receiver solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the cornerback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get a franchise quarterback. A real need, handled.
They paid up for Troy Fautanu at the Round 2 slot when waiting would have done the job. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Edgerrin Cooper in pick 42. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at No. 66 jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
J. Michael Sturdivant at the 100th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Mohamed Kamara in slot 102 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached a country mile for Theo Johnson at No. 139, and the board is aghast. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They took Moose Muhammad III at par in pick 180, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Jawhar Jordan in pick No. 223 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
