Green Bay Packers

A solid, sensible weekend for the Packers: B-.

Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Packers spent the 255th overall pick on Donovan Jennings, a name the board had a full 36 spots lower. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.

For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. Getting Watson where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. The dealing nudged the ledger their way without much fuss.

The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.

In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.26 · Pick 26 · Tyler Guyton · OT · rank 31
In the 26th overall pick they get a blindside protector at fair value.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Darius Robinson · DL-EDGE · rank 36
A straight-up fair deal on Darius Robinson at Round 2, Pick 5, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R2.26 · Pick 58 · Devontez Walker · WR · rank 86
Devontez Walker in the Round 2 slot is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R3.25 · Pick 88 · Cole Bishop · S · rank 92
They paid sticker price for Cole Bishop in slot 88, and that is fine. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R3.28 · Pick 91 · Roger Rosengarten · OT · rank 97
Roger Rosengarten in No. 91 is fair value, right on his grade. It fills a real need, too.
R3.29 · Pick 92 · Maason Smith · DT · rank 104
The board had cheaper options than Maason Smith at the 92nd pick, and it noticed. The roster fit checks out.
R4.13 · Pick 113 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 113
Braelon Allen at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Jarrian Jones · CB · rank 123
Jarrian Jones in slot 126 lands just on the right side of the ledger. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R5.33 · Pick 169 · Tip Reiman · TE · rank 169
By-the-book stuff, Tip Reiman at pick No. 169 squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R6.44 · Pick 219 · Nathaniel Watson · LB · rank 207
Nathaniel Watson is a better player than the 219th overall pick suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
R7.25 · Pick 245 · Frank Crum · OT · rank 254
They paid a round early for Frank Crum in Round 7, Pick 25, more than the board wanted. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.35 · Pick 255 · Donovan Jennings · OT · rank 291
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Donovan Jennings. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
