After circling the position for what felt like forever, the Patriots committed. Jayden Daniels is the quarterback now, and the roster gets built to his timeline.
Every board in the league had Foster lower, and that gap is the story. They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
They went 5 of 8 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
Fair-plus on Brian Thomas Jr., a quiet win that adds up over a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Braden Fiske at the Round 3 slot jumps the queue by a touch more than is comfortable. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Javon Foster. A need, and now a little less of one.
No edge and no loss on Kamal Hadden in Round 4, Pick 36; it is a wash and a sensible one. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Nothing to complain about; Frank Gore Jr. went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Nathaniel Watson at pick No. 229 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
