Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Patriots spent the 70th pick on Logan Brown, a name the board had a full 82 spots lower.
They banked enough surplus on Stowers to cover a lot of smaller sins. A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a potential shutdown corner. Need was not the driver here.
They went early on Dylan Fairchild in the Round 2 slot, and the value did not follow. The roster fit checks out.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Logan Brown this early at slot 70. A need, and now a little less of one.
Dylan Sampson at No. 80 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Smael Mondon Jr. at Round 4, Pick 5 squarely in line with his ranking. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Chris Paul Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They talked themselves into Jamaree Caldwell at the 221st pick, and the board did not agree. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a tight end like Eli Stowers reach No. 223 and blink. They did not. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Shilo Sanders at Round 7, Pick 21 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
