The Patriots spent the pick that matters most on Drake Maye, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. The board rewarded a patient, disciplined weekend with a A.

That Smith-Wade pick is the receipt they will wave around later. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck.

The tight end hole is the one line item this class does not answer. The veteran additions, Mike Williams chief among them, give the class a floor the rookies alone would not.

Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Drake Maye and all.
