Start where it matters. The Commanders took Caleb Williams to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
The Bethune reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. If one pick saves this weekend, it is McKinstry. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through wide receiver.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
Caleb Williams in pick No. 2 is fair value, right on his grade. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They took Tyler Guyton at par in the 36th overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kool-Aid McKinstry in slot 40 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Graham Barton slipping to the 67th pick is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Marshawn Kneeland at Round 3, Pick 37 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A need, and now a little less of one.
A reach on Mohamed Kamara in the Round 4 slot; the board had better options right there. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A reach for Jaylen Wright in pick 141; a little patience would have been rewarded. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid a round early for Christian Jones in No. 181, more than the board wanted. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tatum Bethune in the 223rd pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
