When the story of this class is written, it opens with Jasheen Davis at the Round 6 slot, a reach of 116 spots that the board flatly disagrees with.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Majors steal is the beam this whole class leans on. They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Running back is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
In short, the board sent warnings, and they will be hoping it was wrong.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 19th pick they get a centerpiece for the ground game, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In slot 20 they get a go-to option on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Tyler Warren at pick 53 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A reach on Deone Walker in pick No. 61; the board had better options right there. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A safety of that caliber at No. 62 is the definition of value, full stop. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
They will replay Jihaad Campbell at the 69th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They reached a country mile for Logan Brown at Round 3, Pick 34, and the board is aghast. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jermari Harris slid further than he should have, and the 99th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
A slide stopped in slot 106, with Kevin Winston Jr. worth more than the price. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
Barrett Carter at pick No. 130 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Steal is underselling it; Jake Majors at No. 148 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. It fills a real need, too.
Clay Webb at pick 152 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Samuel Brown in the Round 5 slot, miles early. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Tahj Brooks in the 164th pick is a gift, value that borders on unfair. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A wild overpay on Jasheen Davis in the 178th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Graham Mertz at pick No. 235 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
