The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Devontez Walker, the No. 103 name on the board, sitting there at the Round 4 slot like a gift left on the doorstep. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The cost of the Coleman reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Wide receiver was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 32 they get a cornerstone up front at a price that makes it sweeter. The biggest hole, addressed.
They will replay T.J. Tampa at the Round 2 slot for years; that is how good the value is. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Ja'Lynn Polk at pick 93 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid a round early for Payton Wilson in the 130th pick, more than the board wanted. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Devontez Walker at No. 132 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Good price on Jaylan Ford in slot 169, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A wild overpay on Brandon Coleman in the 174th overall pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Nothing to complain about; Steve Linton went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
They reached into another round for Kenny Logan Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
