Somebody in pick 152 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Dolphins sat still while Jake Majors, the No. 93 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They are betting Wease Jr. proves the room right and everyone else wrong. A whole weekend of picks and quarterback is somehow still a want. The Moore pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at quarterback and edge rusher.
Good work on the whole, with quarterback the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 22 they get a two-high chess piece. More want than need.
A interior defensive lineman of that caliber at the 49th pick is the definition of value, full stop. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Dylan Fairchild in No. 55 is fair value, right on his grade. The roster fit checks out.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went safety with Malachi Moore while clear needs at quarterback and edge rusher sat open.
They will replay Jordan James at the 99th overall pick for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
Barrett Carter at the Round 4 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Somehow Deontae Lawson was still sitting there in pick 124, and they pounced on premier linebacker value. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jake Majors at Round 5, Pick 15 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It fills a real need, too.
Circle this one: Mason Taylor at the 154th pick is a fall that decides a draft. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Theo Wease Jr. in No. 160, miles early. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
