Nobody else had Jalyx Hunt anywhere near pick 107. The Giants did, by 45 spots, and that gap is the whole story. The warnings were there, and the F is the bill.
The whole projection now runs through Jayden Daniels; hit there and everything else looks smarter. They handed away value on the phones that the picks cannot earn back.
The cornerback hole is the one line item this class does not answer. On value alone, Davis makes the weekend a net positive.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.
Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get the face of the franchise. A real need, handled.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jaylen Wright a notch or two before his time. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A wild overpay on Brenden Rice in the 70th pick, the sort that defines a class for the wrong reasons. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Michael Hall Jr. in No. 88. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Theo Johnson in slot 91 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They reached into another round for Mohamed Kamara, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jalyx Hunt at pick No. 107 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Matt Goncalves at the Round 4 slot is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Javon Foster in pick 126 lands just on the right side of the ledger. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Javion Cohen at the 141st pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Kitan Oladapo in No. 149 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid sticker price for Layden Robinson in the 169th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Isaiah Davis at Round 6, Pick 8 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Tanor Bortolini at slot 202 is money in the bank, a offensive lineman taken below his worth. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They reached a country mile for Sam Hartman at slot 219, and the board is aghast. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
