The value of the weekend has a name and a slot: Ricky White, pick 232, roughly 55 picks past where he belonged.
The Hartman reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
Spending an early pick on safety with interior defensive lineman open is the decision the grade keeps circling back to. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a ballhawk on the back end. More want than need.
They let Graham Barton come to them and pounced at pick 39. A need, and now a little less of one.
They paid sticker price for T.J. Tampa in slot 44, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Troy Fautanu in No. 48 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The roster fit checks out.
They took Jack Sawyer at par in the 75th pick, which is nothing to complain about. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No edge and no loss on TreVeyon Henderson in pick No. 82; it is a wash and a sensible one. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The needs board was loud and they turned it down, spending the 86th overall pick on Rod Moore with interior defensive lineman unsolved.
They did well to land Luke Lachey in the Round 4 slot, just ahead of his grade. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A conviction pick on Junior Colson at Round 4, Pick 12 that the board grades a round light. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Khyree Jackson at pick No. 135 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A straight-up fair deal on Devin Neal at pick 149, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jordan Burch at slot 189 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Luke Reimer at the 217th pick is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Sam Hartman in the 219th overall pick, miles early. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They will replay Ricky White at No. 232 for years; that is how good the value is. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
