You can lose a draft before you make a pick. The Cowboys did it at the trade table, overpaying to chase players the board did not price nearly as high.
For all the activity, running back went untouched, which is hard to explain. The Griffith value carries more weight than any single miss elsewhere.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes.
Bottom line, they will be counting on several picks to beat their grades.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a run-stuffing presence up front at fair value.
In pick 30 they get a building block for the line, and a steal at that. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Thor Griffith is a better player than pick No. 62 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Nothing to complain about; KJ Jefferson went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Theo Wease Jr. at Round 4, Pick 30 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the wide receiver. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They took Korey Foreman at par in slot 158, which is nothing to complain about. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Noah Daniels in the 195th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Jack Kiser in No. 222, and that is fine. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
