There is conviction, and then there is this. The Commanders took Joe Milton III a full 48 picks ahead of where the board had him, an overdraft steep enough that it colors the whole weekend. The bottom line is a respectable B.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through tight end.
Getting Wiggins where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 2 they get a matchup problem out wide. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Nate Wiggins in the 36th pick, a genuine coup. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nothing to complain about; Kingsley Suamataia went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Patrick Paul is a better player than the Round 3 slot suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A real head-scratcher, Spencer Rattler in the 100th overall pick is miles ahead of his ranking. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Roger Rosengarten at pick No. 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Joe Milton III well ahead of where he belonged. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Matthew Jones at No. 222 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
