The Cowboys did not reach, did not trade up, did not blink. They just waited, and Kalel Mullings fell into the 190th overall pick.
The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 25 they get a No. 1 receiver, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Steal is underselling it; Jalon Walker at No. 44 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Demetrius Knight Jr. at pick 76 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Anthony Belton at Round 5, Pick 11 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Billy Bowman Jr. in the 170th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Cobee Bryant in pick No. 172 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
No edge and no loss on Dont'e Thornton Jr. in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Kalel Mullings still on the board at the 190th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
A running back of that caliber at pick No. 211 is the definition of value, full stop. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A quiet steal in the 249th pick: Teddye Buchanan for less than the market said. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
