Boards are made to be trusted, and the Patriots shredded theirs for Akheem Mesidor. He came off 71 spots early, and the room will hear about it. Little to argue with here, and the A- says so.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. The Jackson steal is the beam this whole class leans on. It is not that Hairston is a bad player; it is that the Patriots had louder needs to answer first.
The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
Bottom line, with Tetairoa McMillan leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Emery Jones Jr. in the Round 2 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Ollie Gordon II at the 70th overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Billy Bowman Jr. in Round 3, Pick 34 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Jabbar Muhammad here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
A surprising call. With interior defensive lineman, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent No. 106 on Maxwell Hairston, a cornerback they were not short of.
Circle this one: Armand Membou at slot 139 is a fall that decides a draft. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Ja'Quinden Jackson at pick 144 for years; that is how good the value is. It fills a real need, too.
Somehow Dane Key was still sitting there in Round 7, Pick 6, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Value said wait; Akheem Mesidor in No. 235 says they were not listening. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
